North Gower

Situated within the Ottawa - Gatineau metropolitan area, North Gower is a neighbourhood in Ottawa, Ontario.

Transportation

This neighbourhood is especially car friendly. It is especially convenient to park. However, travelling by public transit is very difficult in North Gower. Thankfully, house owners are served by a few bus lines. North Gower is not very conducive to bicycling because there are a fair number of slopes, and the cycling infrastructure is quite poor. A majority of the houses for sale in this neighbourhood are located in places that are also not very suitable for walking as almost no daily needs can be met by walking.

Services

Shopping for one's groceries very often demands the use of a car in this part of the city. Concerning education, parents and their schoolchildren may find it very difficult to get to high schools and primary schools on foot. In addition, there are only a very small number of daycares and accordingly they can be a very long walk away.

Character

North Gower is fairly good for those who prefer a quiet atmosphere, as the streets are generally quite peaceful - although that is not the case near Highway 416. It is rather difficult to get to parks in the neighbourhood since they are distributed sporadically. Despite that, there are approximately 10 public green spaces close by for residents to explore.

Housing

The predominant housing types in North Gower are single detached homes and row houses. About one third of properties in this part of the city were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This part of Ottawa offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy around 90% of the properties in North Gower whereas the rest are rented.
