Iris

Situated in the Ottawa - Gatineau metropolitan area, Iris is a neighbourhood within Ottawa, Ontario.

Transportation

Iris affords property owners several alternative modes of transportation. This neighbourhood is home to a very good public transit system as a result of 2 rapid transit stations (Iris 1a and Iris 2a) with access to the 75 |, and about 40 nearby bus lines. However, travelling by foot is not very common in this neighbourhood, even though many daily errands can be run without having to resort to a vehicle. It is convenient to move around by bicycle in Iris as this part of the city boasts a reasonably good cycling infrastructure. Driving is also a great medium of transportation in this area. It is easy to find a place to park, and nearby highways, such as Highway 417, are very easy to access from anywhere in Iris.

Services

A fraction of residents in Iris may be able to buy their groceries on foot, while others will need a vehicle. That being said, a restaurant is commonly just around the corner, and there are also a few cafes in this part of Ottawa. Property owners benefit from a good number of nearby clothing stores. As far as education is concerned, schools and daycares are easy to access on foot from most homes for sale in Iris.

Character

The character of Iris is exemplified by its relaxed environment. This part of the city is quiet overall, as the streets are usually quite calm - although that is not the case around Highway 417. Lastly, green spaces, like Pinecrest Recreation Complex and Park, are especially well-distributed and there are a few of them nearby for residents to relax in, making them easy to reach.

Housing

In Iris, roughly half of buildings are single detached homes, but large apartment buildings and townhouses are also present in the housing stock. This part of Ottawa experienced its most significant building boom in the 1960s and 1970s, so most of the available housing is from this time period. This neighbourhood offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy around 55% of the properties in Iris and 45% are rented.
